Diving Deeper into AI: The Beginning of My Journey

As I approach my final semester in college, I’ve decided to document my deepening exploration into the world of Artificial Intelligence. This post marks the beginning of a series that will showcase my journey, my learnings, and my projects in the AI space.

Turning Point

My journey with AI began when GPT was first released. Unlike many who viewed it as a tool for quick answers or felt uneasy about using it, I saw its potential as a powerful learning aid. I decided to leverage AI not just to complete tasks, but to deepen my understanding of complex topics.

This approach came with its challenges. During a psychology course, I found myself spending more time learning how to interact effectively with the AI than studying the course material itself. For the midterm exam, I attempted to use AI to process my semester’s notes, hoping for a comprehensive study guide. The result was disappointing – the AI mixed facts and created unreliable information, leading to a poor performance.

Despite this setback, I didn’t give up. I believed that the time invested in mastering AI interaction would pay off in the long run. I continued to focus on optimizing my use of AI, convinced that improving my ability to communicate with it would ultimately lead to more efficient and effective learning across all my subjects.

This strategic decision began to bear fruit. By the time the final exam rolled around, I had significantly improved my approach to using AI. The result was not just better exam performance, but a deeper understanding of both the subject matter and the potential of AI as a learning tool.

Lessons Learned

Through trial and error, and countless hours of practice, I discovered the nuances of effective AI interaction:

  • Understanding the AI’s capabilities and limitations
  • Implementing structured prompting techniques
  • Adopting best practices such as:
    • Setting clear roles for the AI
    • Providing specific tasks and resources
    • Defining desired output and rules
    • Employing the “think step by step” approach for complex problems

These techniques not only improved my academic performance but also sparked a desire to position myself at the forefront of this revolutionary technology.

A New Chapter: Documenting the Journey

This past May, standing at the threshold of my final semester, I made a decision. I wanted to dive deeper into AI, to explore its potential beyond just academic assistance. To document this journey and share my learnings with others, I created a website.

Building this website was itself an AI-assisted project. I used AI to guide me through learning HTML and blogging techniques, applying the communication skills I’d developed along the way. This process allowed me to:

  • Demonstrate practical applications of AI in web development
  • Create a space to display my AI projects and experiments
  • Share my insights and learning process with a broader community

Looking Ahead

As I embark on this new phase of my AI journey, I’m excited to explore areas like:

  • Custom AI tool creation
  • Advanced AI-assisted learning techniques
  • Practical applications of AI in various fields
  • Continuous refinement of AI interaction strategies for optimal learning

This blog series will serve as a chronicle of my experiences, challenges, and discoveries. I hope it will not only showcase my growing skills but also inspire others to explore the vast potential of AI.

Stay tuned for future posts where I’ll dive into specific projects, share new insights, and discuss the latest developments in AI. This is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey into the world of Artificial Intelligence!
